About the creator
Afsaneh Moslehi
- Afsaneh Moslehi is an Iranian self-taught visual artist born in Babol, Iran, in 1989, based in Muscat, Oman. Her practice is rooted in contemporary calligraphy, developed into a visual language that brings together geometry, pattern, and cultural memory. Inspired by the landscapes, architecture, and visual heritage of Oman, she examines how the identity of a place can be carried forward through contemporary artistic form.
Short Biography
Afsaneh trained as a biomedical engineer before developing an independent artistic practice rooted in calligraphy and pattern. Based in Muscat, she has built a sustained exhibition presence across Oman since 2021, culminating in her first solo exhibition, 'Echo of the East', at Stal Gallery in Muscat in 2026, which received coverage from the Oman News Agency, Oman Observer, Muscat Daily, FM Radio Oman, and several online publications. In 2025, she contributed a large-scale mirror installation collaboration to Oman Design Week at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center.
Education
Afsaneh holds a Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering (2008 to 2012) and a Master of Biomedical Engineering (2013 to 2015), both from Islamic Azad University of Tabriz, Iran. Her artistic development has been entirely self-directed.
Exhibitions
Afsaneh has exhibited consistently across Muscat since 2021. Her solo exhibition 'Echo of the East' was held at Stal Gallery, Muscat, in 2026, alongside participation in the Stal Gallery Summer Exhibition and the 'Less Is More' Exhibition at ABCN Business Center, DoubleTree by Hilton, also in 2026. In 2025, she contributed to Oman Design Week at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center with a large-scale mirror installation collaboration, and participated in the Oman Affordable Art Show at Al Bahja Hall. Her 2024 exhibitions include the Muscat Art Exhibition at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center, 'Art in Pages 2' at Makan Studio, InterContinental Muscat, 'Another Level Art Exhibition' at DoubleTree by Hilton, and the Homecoming Exhibition at Art and Soul Gallery. In 2023, she showed work at the Oman Vista Exhibition at Art and Soul Gallery and the Oman Affordable Art Show. Her earliest exhibition in Muscat was at Bait Muzna Gallery in 2021, where her work was shown for approximately one year.
Artistic Style
Afsaneh's work begins with calligraphy and expands outward into geometry, mirror art, and pattern-based visual research. Her central inquiry is how landscape shapes culture and how culture is carried through language and visual form, asking specifically how the patterns found in nature become architecture, ornament, and written mark. The visual heritage of Oman is a primary source, approached not as material to reproduce but as a living tradition to continue and reinterpret. Her practice holds this tension between preservation and evolution, using contemporary artistic language to carry forward what might otherwise remain fixed in the past.
Additional Information
Afsaneh's solo exhibition 'Echo of the East' received press coverage from the Oman News Agency, Oman Observer, Muscat Daily, FM Radio Oman, Wejhatt.com, OmanDaily.om, Mazaj, and WA-Gulf.com, across April and July 2026.
