- Ali Sadeq is an Egyptian calligrapher and graphic designer born in 2000, based in the United Arab Emirates. His practice brings together traditional Arabic calligraphy and contemporary graphic design, with a particular focus on Kufic script alongside freestyle and classical calligraphy styles.
Short Biography
Ali began his creative practice in 2017, designing and crafting jewellery incorporating Arabic calligraphy. He moved into professional graphic design in 2018 and began a formal exploration of Arabic calligraphy in 2020. In January 2023, he received a Certificate of Appreciation from Al-Qalam Foundation in Cairo following a specialised workshop he delivered on Kufic calligraphy, and has since launched a YouTube course on the subject to extend access to wider audiences.
Artistic Style
Ali's work sits at the intersection of traditional Arabic calligraphy and modern graphic design. Kufic script is his primary area of specialisation, though his practice also encompasses freestyle and classical calligraphy styles. His early work in jewellery design established a concern for applying calligraphic form across different materials and contexts, a versatility that continues to define his approach.
