Short Biography

Ibrahim Al-Awwam devoted his life to the development of modern Sudanese art, both through his own creative output and through his role as an educator and institutional founder. He established the Ahadiya School of Art and co-founded the School of One, two significant contributions to the formation of a contemporary Sudanese artistic identity. Over a career of more than 60 years, he produced over 9,000 works across multiple disciplines, exhibited internationally, and received the Golden Medal for Arts and Literature in 2002. He passed away in 2017, leaving behind a body of work and an educational legacy that continues to shape Sudanese art.

Artistic Style

Al-Awwam's practice was unusually broad, encompassing painting, sculpture, calligraphy, poetry, and scholarly writing on art.
