About the creator
- Gastone Cecconello is a distinguished Italian visual artist whose six-decade career is defined by continuous experimentation, material innovation, and a deeply personal expressive language. Born in 1942 in Piedmont, he transformed early challenges into a powerful creative drive, becoming one of the most original and enduring voices in Italian contemporary art. Since the late 1960s, Cecconello has cultivated a unique artistic vocabulary where geometry, texture, and color intersect with memory, matter, and existential reflection. Working with reclaimed materials. Iron, wood, stone, plaster, printed paper, sand, and pigments. He creates rigorous sculptural and pictorial compositions. Central to his poetics are the iconic “ominidi”, faceless figures enclosed in boxes or repeated in series, symbolizing the fragility of identity and the alienation of modern society. His works have been exhibited internationally, from Paris to the French Riviera, with solo exhibitions curated by leading critics including Carlo Munari, Renzo Margonari, and Lorella Giudici. In recent years, Cecconello has expanded his practice to metaphysical assemblages. Real objects sealed within boxes and large, luminous paintings animated by his unmistakable stylized forms. His pittosculture and sculptures balance poetic intensity with social commentary, probing the tension between the individual and contemporary systems.
