Gurumaahesh Srinivasan I 1976 March Contemporary Abstract Artist "For 25 years, my hands have been in conversation with the canvas. What began as a self-taught exploration of form has evolved into a deeply instinctive practice of 'painting the mind.' My journey has been one of intentional unlearning—moving away from the constraints of realism toward the boundless freedom of contemporary abstraction. My work is a celebration of the unfinished line. In my studio, a stroke that stops mid-air is not a mistake; it is an invitation. I believe that life itself is a series of incomplete thoughts and evolving emotions, and I reflect this through the tactile marriage of acrylics and raw pastels. By building heavy textures and deep layers, I create a physical 'skin' on the canvas that mirrors the complexity of our inner worlds. As a self-taught artist, my perspective is unpolished and unfiltered. I do not paint to provide answers, but to capture the energy of a moment before it fades. Each piece I create is a 25-year-old promise to stay curious, to trust my instincts, and to find beauty in the gaps we leave behind." Exhibition History Solo Exhibitions • 2016: My Abstract Universe, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishatit , Banaglore, India • 2014, Reflection of my thoughts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishatit , Banaglore, India Selected Group Exhibitions • 2024 – Khwab e Mussawiri , session 2, Picaso, al serkal, Dubai, UAE. • 2024 – Abstract Universe, Artsmiley Gallery, Dubai, UAE. Commissions & Collections • Private collections in Sweden, USA, Denmark, India,

  • Artistic Statement

For Srinivasan, the line is more than a simple mark. It is a continuation of thought, memory, and feeling. His works often explore the tension between completion and incompletion, reflecting unspoken emotions and unfinished stories. Through instinctive strokes and layered textures, he transforms these “unfinished lines” into narrative threads that speak to the universal truths of vulnerability, silence, and the unresolved.

  • Practice

Working primarily in mixed media, Acrylic paint / different types of pastels Srinivasan creates textured, layered compositions where lines and gestures emerge organically. While deeply personal in origin, his work extends an invitation for viewers to engage in their own introspection. His art thus becomes a dialogue. A space where beauty and fragility meet, allowing others to connect with the resonance of the unspoken and the undone.
