- HouseBau, a contemporary artist, airline pilot, and jazz enthusiast, was born in Switzerland and has called many places home. Since relocating to Dubai in 2012, HouseBau has created and worked across the globe. His journey in art began in his teenage years, where he was deeply involved in jazz music and painting. By 18, he had already participated in several group exhibitions in Switzerland. After completing his Matura, he traveled to Africa, where he met his wife, marking the beginning of an over decade-long adventure through various African countries. This period, which he refers to as the ‘African Period,’ deeply influenced his art, focusing on the simplicity and natural laws of the world. His artistic path then took him to Düsseldorf and Bruges during the ‘European Period,’ where his work transitioned toward abstractionism and symbolism, rooted in simplicity. The next phase of his artistic evolution unfolded in Macao, Hong Kong, and Shenzhen, which he calls the ‘Asian Period.’ Here, HouseBau developed a unique technique influenced by the color studies of the Impressionists and the mathematical approach of artists like Klee, Miró, and Kandinsky. The legacy of groups like Die Brücke, Bauhaus, and Cobra also shaped his work. Now based in the UAE, HouseBau continues to thrive both as an artist and an airline pilot, sharing his passion and creativity with the world.
Exhibitions & Milestones
HouseBau's artistic journey has taken him across the globe, with key exhibitions that have defined his career. His first exhibition in 1984 in Switzerland, organized by Beat Schütz, marked the start of his artistic path. In 1995, he participated in the 'Open Air Art Show' in Nairobi, Kenya, and later showcased his work at the 'Wanderjahre' exhibition in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 1999. His international reach continued to grow with a private showing called 'Encounters' in Shekou, Guangdong, China, in 2010, solidifying his place on the global art stage.
