Jessica Von Rondon

Jessica Von Rondon came to cubism through experimentation rather than instruction. She was exploring different ways to paint when the style found her, and the encounter was decisive. The geometric logic of cubism, its capacity to fragment a subject and reassemble it from multiple perspectives simultaneously, matched something in how she already thought about images. She has been working within and around it ever since.

Born in Brazil in 1991, Jessica spent most of her life in Portugal before relocating to Dubai, where she now works from her studio in Arjan under the name Von Rondon Art. Her formal background is in Multimedia and Technology, studied in Portugal with a focus on visual communication and digital media. That training shaped her understanding of composition and visual language, though her painting practice has developed independently from it.

She works in acrylic and mixed media, building textured surfaces within a contemporary cubist framework. Her subjects include portraiture, wildlife, and natural forms, approached through a visual language that fragments and reassembles rather than depicts. Geometric structure and organic subject matter are held in deliberate tension, and texture adds physical depth to compositions that are already spatially complex. The influence of Picasso is openly acknowledged, particularly his use of geometric form to carry emotion and present multiple viewpoints within a single image.

Her process is methodical from the start. Before touching the canvas, she works out a clear vision of what she intends to express, sometimes noting down the feeling or story she wants the work to communicate. She begins with pencil and ruler, sketching the composition and establishing the geometric forms. Masking tape is applied around individual shapes before each is painted separately, the final image revealing itself only when the tape is removed and the clean lines emerge. It is a process that requires both planning and trust.

In 2026, her works 'Petals of Her' and 'The Fox's Glare' were selected for Curated Collective II at Qube Art Gallery in Dubai, her first formal exhibition placing her within the city's contemporary gallery circuit.

One piece she singles out as particularly meaningful sits slightly outside her usual cubist approach: Guardian of the Dunes, a tiger set against a desert landscape with the Burj Khalifa in the background. The subject was specific and the challenge deliberate. She wanted to test herself beyond familiar territory, and by her own account, she trusted the vision and saw it through. That willingness to step outside a settled method, while remaining grounded in a clear artistic identity, says as much about her practice as the cubist work itself.
