About the creator

LILIA LUJAN

Lilia Luján is a Mexican contemporary artist whose practice is rooted in intuition, experimentation, and emotional depth. After pausing a ten-year career in advertising in 1995, she traveled to Europe with the intention of dedicating one year to art, a journey that ultimately lasted twelve transformative years. Immersed in diverse cultures, artistic movements, and materials, she produced and exhibited paintings, murals, alternative sculptures, installations, visual poetry, and textile works across multiple countries, with expressionist figuration, color, and materiality as a unifying thread. Returning to Mexico in 2007, Luján reconnected deeply with her roots, developing a timeless personal language defined by strong visual codes, textures, iconography, and vibrant color, creating works that resonate emotionally across cultures. Her practice expanded through teaching and social engagement, leading art and mural workshops for children and women in vulnerable situations, and directing more than 35 murals focused on UNESCO themes such as peace, identity, and environmental awareness. In recent years, her work has evolved to include large-format minimalist paintings, highly textural mixed-media series, alternative sculpture inspired by urban architecture, and committed digital art addressing urgent global issues, including human rights, climate change, conflict, diversity, and inclusion. Actively participating in international exhibitions, biennials, and symposia, Luján views art as a powerful tool for social conscience and transformation. She is currently preparing a series of international traveling exhibitions for 2025–2026 to mark 30 years of artistic practice, alongside the presentation of her books Art and Social Conscience: A Contemporary Vision of Committed Art and Luján, 30: A Special 30th Anniversary Edition, reaffirming her belief in art as a cathartic, human, and transformative act.

Her practice balances emotional expression with material exploration and cultural references.
