- Maria Faridi is a prominent Dubai-based artist, originally from Pakistan. In her decades-spanning journey, she has become a consummate creator, well renowned for her work with Arabic calligraphy. Self-taught, Faridi began painting as a means of gratifying her artistic pursuits. As a multidisciplinary artist, her journey unfolds at the intersection of business acumen, the elegance of calligraphy, and the unrestrained world of abstract expressionism. With a Master's in Business as her foundation, her work is infused with strategic intent and a keen eye for innovation. Yet, it is the fluidity of calligraphy that guides her hand, each stroke a dance between structure and spontaneity. Her foray into abstract art is a testament to the boundless exploration of the human spirit. Self-taught and unbounded by tradition, she embrace the freedom to create without constraints, allowing emotion and intuition to shape each composition. Through layers of color, texture, and form, she seeks to evoke visceral responses and invite viewers into a dialogue with the ineffable. In this convergence of disciplines, she finds resonance and rhythm, where the analytical meets the intuitive, the calculated merges with the chaotic. “My work is an invitation to journey beyond the confines of convention, to explore the infinite possibilities of the creative realm”, she says. She employs contemporary and abstract art as her modern canvas. Today, her artwork is found in several private and public collections across the Middle East, Europe, and the US.
Exhibitions
Maria has participated in numerous prestigious exhibitions and events over the past several years. Notable exhibitions include World Art Dubai at the World Trade Center in 2021, as well as gallery shows in Oman (2019), Islamabad (2019), and Lahore (2020). Maria has also exhibited with multiple galleries across Dubai over a span of five years and contributed to various public art events. Additionally, she created a mural for the Pakistan Association Dubai at Oud Metha and participated in Expo 2020. Further showcasing her commitment to the arts, Maria was involved in the Inclusion and Development Art Event in 2021.
Education
Maria holds a Master's degree in Business and Finance. She is a self-taught abstract expressionist who has learned Arabic calligraphy from renowned Ustaz(s) in the UAE and Pakistan, and she continues to refine her skills in this art form.
