About the creator
- Marwa Elbadawi is a visual artist, designer, and educator whose work resides in the quiet tension between motion and stillness. Born in Saudi Arabia to Egyptian parents and now based in the UAE, her creative journey bridges identities, geographies, and states of being. Rooted in Islamic metaphysics and inspired by the wabi-sabi philosophy, Marwa’s practice embraces imperfection, memory, and transformation. Through textures, symbolic forms, and natural materials, she explores the poetry of transitions—where silence holds emotion and stillness begins to move.
Education
Marwa Elbadawi began her formal journey into the arts at Helwan University in Cairo, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art & Science. Her academic focus on cultural art allowed her to delve deeply into themes of symbolism, heritage, and interdisciplinary practice. It was during this formative time that Marwa developed a passion for storytelling through visual media—an approach that continues to define her work.
Teaching & Mentorship
Marwa’s career has always been guided by a belief in the power of both creation and education. At Le Collège Français, she introduced children to the joy of art, founding a student art club and leading collaborative workshops that sparked creativity. Later, she served as an Assistant Lecturer at the Arab Academy for Science & Technology, where she mentored over a hundred students and curated significant academic exhibitions. These experiences reinforced her dedication to shaping visual dialogue and nurturing young talent.
Studio Practice & Freelance Work
Alongside her academic work, Marwa cultivated a thriving freelance and studio practice in Cairo. Her creative explorations included wood collage, motion design, and visual identity development—often centered around politically and culturally resonant themes. Through local gallery exhibitions and collaborative projects, she forged connections with her community, using art as a tool for dialogue, resistance, and cultural reflection.
Recent Practice in the UAE
Since relocating to the United Arab Emirates in 2023, Marwa’s practice has taken on a more conceptual and philosophical dimension. Influenced by Islamic metaphysics and the aesthetics of wabi-sabi, her recent work reflects themes of stillness, impermanence, and introspective beauty. Through collaborations with cultural institutions and government bodies, she continues to engage in artistic research while creating pieces that invite contemplation and quiet resonance.
Artistic Philosophy
Marwa Elbadawi views art and education as two threads of the same fabric—where one nurtures the hand and the other elevates the spirit. Each exhibition she participates in is approached as a chapter in a visual narrative that explores memory, material, and meaning. From her early conceptual experiments in Cairo to her current meditative works in the UAE, Marwa’s evolving body of work invites viewers into moments of reflection and spiritual engagement.
