About the creator
- منية لفراوي | Mounia Lafraoui, professionally known as Ghinasif G.S, is a Moroccan self-taught visual artist based in Marrakech, specializing in Art Naïf and contemporary mixed media. Her artistic practice is deeply rooted in imagination, emotion, and an intuitive connection to life’s beauty. Working beyond conventional boundaries, she embraces freedom of expression through vibrant colors, symbolic storytelling, and handcrafted surfaces. Naturally gifted and self-driven, Mounia has developed a distinctive artistic language using natural materials such as henna, saffron, turmeric, and organic pigments. Her work reflects authenticity, cultural depth, and a raw poetic sensibility, allowing each piece to communicate a unique visual narrative.
Artistic Journey & Milestones
In 2015, Mounia began painting on wooden frames as a personal exploration, creating a series of 18 original works distinguished by imaginative forms and expressive color palettes. Sharing her art on social media led to a pivotal moment in her career when her work caught the attention of Spanish sculptor Enrique Seoane Hening. Invited to exhibit at the gallery of his luxury hotel in Ouarzazate, Mounia held her first solo exhibition on April 1, 2017, at Hôtel Côté du Sud. The exhibition was attended by hotel guests and art enthusiasts, marking her official entry into the professional art scene. Notably, her use of unconventional materials, painting on a white bedsheet, was praised as a powerful example of uninhibited, self-taught creativity. Following the exhibition, she received direct mentorship from Enrique Seoane Hening, gaining technical knowledge in professional materials, canvas preparation, paper selection, and framing, further strengthening her artistic foundation.
Artistic Practice & Mediums
Since her first exhibition, Mounia’s practice has expanded into a wide range of mixed-media and applied art forms. Her body of work includes painting with henna and natural pigments on cow and goat leather, artwork on pottery and wood, and hand-painted designs on leather fashion items such as hats and bags. She also produces acrylic paintings on canvas and specialized art paper. Many of her artworks are now part of private collections across the USA and Europe. Through her connection to the tourism sector in Marrakech, she regularly creates customized commissions, adapting her artistic vision to specific dimensions and client requests.
Exclusive & Future Projects
Mounia Lafraoui is currently developing a series of exclusive, socially engaged art initiatives that reflect her belief in art as a tool for healing, empowerment, and community impact. One of her key projects focuses on charitable and humanitarian art workshops, designed for people with special needs, elderly communities, women’s and children’s associations. These workshops aim to merge creativity with social support and emotional expression. She is also working on an art-therapy inspired project titled “My Journey with Colors”, which includes interactive workshops, wellness sessions, and the creation of an artistic book dedicated to self-expression through color. This long-term project is designed to support cancer patients, bedridden individuals, and mental health associations, promoting psychological well-being and recovery. In addition, Mounia plans to establish a women’s cooperative for artistic rugs, using naturally colored threads to create narrative-driven designs. The project envisions producing 20 unique artistic stories within one month and is designed to be adaptable internationally, including future implementation in the UAE, Inshallah.
