- Nassim Nasr is a Lebanese self-taught artist, based in Dubai. Over more than two and a half decades of practice, he has developed a distinctive approach he terms 'Expressive Color Minimalism', a synthesis of Abstract Expressionism, Color Field painting, and Minimalism that balances emotional intensity with deliberate restraint.
Short Biography
Nassim studied Business Management in the UK before a drive towards direct creative expression redirected him to painting. His early years had spanned Lebanon, Kuwait, and the UK, shaped by the turbulence of Lebanon during his formative years, and this breadth of cultural experience continues to inform his work. Entirely self-taught, he built his practice over more than 25 years in Dubai, developing a visual language rooted in what he calls the 'harmony of opposition', holding contrasting qualities in deliberate dialogue within each composition.
Education
Nassim studied Business Management in the UK. His artistic development has been entirely self-directed.
Exhibitions
Nassim has exhibited across the UAE, Lebanon, and several other locations, participating in gallery shows, art fairs, and digital showcases.
Artistic Style
Nassim coined the term 'Expressive Color Minimalism' to describe a practice that draws simultaneously from three traditions. From Abstract Expressionism, he takes emotional intensity and the weight of each mark. From Color Field painting, he treats color not as decoration but as narrative, carrying feeling and depth independently of form. From Minimalism, he applies conscious restraint, ensuring every element on the canvas serves a specific purpose. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, he seeks a balance between vibrancy and void. His major series reflect distinct thematic concerns: 'Xanthophilia' explores self-discovery and transformation through a bold black and yellow palette; 'Building Bridges' uses the arch as a recurring symbol of connection, strength, and transition; 'Extinction' addresses environmental degradation and biodiversity loss through vivid color that simultaneously celebrates the natural world and mourns its disappearance; and 'I See Flowers' engages with themes of nature and identity.
