About the creator
- Rubab Zahra is a Contemporary Calligraphy and Abstract artist. Rubab aims to conserve the Sacred Art of Arabic Calligraphy; hence her work consists of traditional Islamic Arabic art series and to connect it to the modern world she has developed contemporary versions of it. She has faith in the power of words, thus she tries to connect her abstract expressions with calligraphy strokes. Rubab’s Abstract Artworks are mainly inspired by current events, social issues and cultures. In her Abstract Series, She has thrown light on the topics like ‘Inclusivity’, ‘Beauty in Diversity’, ‘Peace’, ‘Women Empowerment’ and ‘Family Empowerment’ and environmental issues. Rubab prefers using monochromes and subtle colors in combination with metal foils to bring life to her paintings. She works with a wide variety of media like acrylic paints, inks and metal leaves etc. She uses brushes, palette knives and many unconventional tools to create texture, layers and depth in her artworks. In a fairly short period of time, Rubab has accomplished considerably well as a self-taught & self-representing artist. She recently completed her specialization in “Modern and Contemporary Art and Design from Museum of Modern Art, New York, USA.” Currently, she is pursuing her degree in Graphic Design in order to fuse her passion for Arabic calligraphy with latest tech and graphic trends. Rubab’s recent collaboration with Bestune Automobile - where she designed and painted her modern calligraphy composition on Bestune T99, proved to be another feather in her cap. Rubab has worked with brands such as Gucci, LVMH, Tumi, Dior, Sephora, starlink. She worked with companies such as ADCB, and prestigious Art Platforms such as SIKKA, World Art Dubai. She secured her place as The First Pakistani Female Visual Artist to receive UAE's golden Visa. She has been featured on the Cover of WKND magazine in April ,2021. Rubab is part of the Caffeine And Women Movement, the NFT Project and is one of the Pioneer Artists. She has been interviewed by Sharjah TV. Her works have been featured locally and internationally, notably in Khaleej Times, BBC MENA, WKND magazine, City Times, Geo News, Ary News and in multiple other media. She has sold her artworks and beautified multiple spaces worldwide.
Education
Rubab, an accomplished artist, brings a unique blend of creativity and technical expertise to her work. She specializes in Modern Art and Design, having honed her skills at MOMA in New York, USA. With a background in Graphic Design, Rubab seamlessly integrates innovative visual elements into her artistic creations. Alongside her artistic pursuits, she holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biotechnology, demonstrating her diverse intellectual curiosity and commitment to exploring interdisciplinary perspectives in her art.
Exhibitions
Rubab’s paintings have been exhibited in “Carrousel du Louvre” in Paris, “Moscow State Museum” in Russia, Washington DC, USA, Georgia and Mauritius International Art Fair. Her painting “Peace in our Hands” is selected to be in the permanent collection of “Haegeumgang Theme Museum, South Korea”.
Awards
Rubab has received the “Wonder Mom Award- Fine Art Category” in 2022 and has been selected as Ambassador of Pakistan for Art Connects Women in the same year 2022 and received an Award. She has also received “Al Zarooni Award” in 2021.
