About the creator
Ruber Veliz Art
- Ruber Veliz is a Cuban contemporary artist born in 1987, based in Estonia. Trained at the Eduardo Abela Academy of Plastic Arts in Cuba, his practice explores emotion, dreams, memory, and the subconscious through expressive color, symbolic imagery, and intuitive composition. His work is held in private collections across Europe.
Short Biography
Ruber trained extensively in Cuba before relocating to Estonia, where he has built an active exhibition practice and integrated himself into the local cultural scene, also working as a musician and performer. His first solo exhibition was held in Tallinn in 2021, and he has since shown work across several venues in Estonia, with pieces sold through the Osta Noort Kunsti art auction at Telliskivi Creative City in both 2023 and 2024, and through gallery and coffee house exhibitions in 2024. His work bridges his Caribbean cultural background with his experience of European life, and he accepts commissions for private, corporate, and hospitality contexts worldwide.
Education
Ruber studied at the Eduardo Abela Academy of Plastic Arts in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba, where he received training in anatomical drawing, artistic drawing, painting, engraving, sculpture, illustration, and ceramics.
Exhibitions
Ruber held his first solo exhibition at Mere Kultuurikeskus in Tallinn in 2021, followed by two presentations of 'Midagi Enamat' (Something More) at Abja Cultural Centre (2021) and Taagepera Library (2022). He participated in the Osta Noort Kunsti Group Exhibition and Art Auction at Telliskivi Creative City, Tallinn, in both 2023 and 2024, with works successfully sold at auction on both occasions. In 2024, he also exhibited at Gourmet Coffee Art Space and Kofeman Coffee House in Estonia, with multiple works sold at each venue.
Artistic Style
Ruber's paintings function as visual records of the subconscious, translating emotion, memory, and inner experience into metaphorical and often surreal compositions. Human figures, animals, urban landscapes, and symbolic elements recur throughout his work, used as vehicles to investigate identity, transformation, and the connections between interior and exterior worlds. His formal training in drawing, engraving, and sculpture gives his paintings a strong structural foundation, while his intuitive approach to color, line, and composition keeps them expressive and open-ended. The influence of Caribbean culture sits alongside the quieter register of his European life, and the tension between these two contexts gives his work a distinctive character that resists easy categorization.
Additional Information
Ruber's works are held in private collections across Europe and are available for private collectors, corporate collections, hotels and hospitality projects, interior design commissions, and international exhibitions. Alongside his visual art practice, he is an active musician and performer participating in cultural projects in Estonia.
