Artistic Style
Sapna's practice is moving through a significant development, from expressive figurative and abstract painting into an intricate, ornamental mode inspired by the visual language of traditional carpets. In this current body of work, familiar figures and organic forms are woven into dense, layered compositions built from thousands of carefully constructed marks, patterns, and forms. The surfaces create a sense of movement within apparently controlled compositions, demanding precision and discipline while simultaneously drawing on rhythm and intuition. Within these elaborate fields, her figures no longer simply inhabit the canvas; they become part of it, emerging, receding, and at times almost disappearing into the intricate ground. The result is a body of work that occupies the space between painting and pattern, figuration and abstraction, precision and instinct, rewarding viewers who look beyond the surface to discover the deeply human vocabulary embedded within.
