Shama Alsuwaidi (b. 1999) is a multidisciplinary artist based in the UAE. Her multidisciplinary practice spans painting, sculpture, and installation, through which she explores the transient nature of being, the intersection of dreams and conscious experience, and the cyclical relationships between life, death, and perception.
Working through her intuitive processes, she draws from her dream journal as a primary source of inspiration, as she has kept one for the past 8 years, a ritual, a conversation that she can't miss. Incorporating recurring elements such as glass marbles to symbolize reflection, fragility, and the human desire for understanding. Shama was part of Alreeshah Studio and has exhibited at Sikka Art Fair 2024, among other exhibitions. Her practice continues to investigate the dialogue between inner worlds and collective experience through material experimentation and immersive installations.
Painting, specifically oil painting, is her primary language, birthing dreamscapes and magical destinations directly projecting from her escaping dreams. She finds life and death intertwined, how we evolve under circumstances as life has for centuries.
She uses her art to substitute what words can't, to find answers to questions that can't be phrased. Through this process, her work becomes both an archive of the subconscious and an offering to the collective, inviting viewers into spaces that feel familiar yet unknown

Shama Alsuwaidi is an emerging Emirati artist based in Abu Dhabi whose work explores the simplicity of human essence and the deep-rooted desire to be seen. Her multidisciplinary practice delves into the transient nature of dreams, individuality, and the subconscious, often expressed through ceramics, oil paintings, and iron-soldered sculptures. Through her reflective and symbolic approach, Shama invites viewers to confront the layers of emotion and perception that shape human existence.
Exhibitions & Projects
Shama has participated in several notable art events across the UAE. She exhibited her installation “Cluster” at Sikka Art Fair 2024 in Dubai, showcased and sold ceramic works at the Disappearing Appearing Art Show in Al Quoz, and contributed original illustrations to the Corniche Comic Publication (5th Edition). Each project reflects her evolving exploration of identity, emotion, and the human experience through diverse artistic mediums.
Residencies & Creative Development
As a resident artist at Alreeshah Studio (2023–2024), Shama developed new sculptural and painted works that explore themes of shame, transformation, and the cyclical nature of being. This period marked a significant evolution in her artistic process, deepening her exploration of emotional and psychological narratives through form and material.
