Vera Klimova

Short Biography

Vera began her career in music. She started working at the Opera and Ballet Theatre of the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire in 1998 and graduated from its vocal department in 2000. As a concert singer, she took part in many musical projects and toured Europe, America and other countries. In 2010 she turned to painting and began training in academic art, while continuing her musical career. She moved to Vienna in 2012 and has exhibited regularly in Austria, Switzerland and Russia, as well as in international online exhibitions.

Education

Vera graduated from the vocal department of the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire in 2000. Between 2010 and 2018 she trained in painting at the ‘Artika’ school of academic painting and took a course in portraiture. She also took private lessons with Vadim Chazov, a teacher at the Repin Academy, and attended the Summer School of the I.E. Repin Institute at the Russian Academy of Arts.

Exhibitions

Vera has exhibited mainly in Vienna since 2019. Her exhibitions there include ‘Wesendonck-Lieder’ at Ringstrassen Galerien and the ‘End of the Year Show’ (2019). In 2020 she showed in ‘Beauty of the Moments’ at Mondi Gallery, the Vienna Art Market January vernissage, ‘Hear My Roar’ at Open House Theater and ‘In a Father Night’ at Kunstschaffen, as well as vernissages at Palais Eschenbach and Rochus. In 2021 she took part in the ‘WE Contemporary Art Show’ and ‘Das ist für mich Weihnachten’ at Galerie am Park. In Switzerland she showed at ARTBOX.PROJECT Zürich 2.0 (2020) and 3.0 (2021). Her earlier exhibitions in Russia include ‘Faces’ in Moscow (2011) and ‘Awakening’ in St Petersburg (2015). She has also taken part in international online exhibitions. These include ‘All Landscape Art Theme’ and Spotlight Art Collective (2021), and ‘Valentine 2022’ with Gallerium, ‘All Women’ with Light Space and Time and ‘COLORS’ with Art Room Gallery (2022).

Artistic Style

Color is the heart of Vera’s work, and her bold color combinations make her style easy to recognize. Music shapes every painting: she works while listening to music, turning sound into color, contrast and texture on the canvas. Her training in classical academic painting gives her a strong base for working in realism, impressionism and abstraction. She paints portraits, nudes, landscapes, still lifes and abstract works. Her practice explores the meeting point of the visible and the invisible, the controlled and the intuitive. For her, music stands for the invisible. By combining sound and image, she aims to create an immersive experience that invites the viewer to look and feel beyond the surface.
