About the creator
- Yasmine El Hazek (b. 1989) based in Dubai, she attended many art programs around the world and received her masters in visual arts in Florence, Italy. Starting her career from a young age, El Hazek has developed a keen interest in people, and devoted her continuous artistic experimentations to portraying them. Stimulated by all the different faces, from humans to animals to her fantastical composite creatures of both, that Egypt has to offer, she both painted and sculpted the wide range of expressions and moments that she has witnessed or imagined. Her bold characters, use of color convey political, economic, and historical heritage. With an astute sense of observation and a healthy mixture of humor, satire and empathy, Yasmine would frequently roam the streets of Cairo and sketch people and their surroundings to capture the beauty that many passers-by could easily overlook. Her paintings and sculptures channel the energy she feels pulsing in the streets, people, animals and hidden fantasies of her beloved country. She is represented by Zamalek Art Gallery, in Cairo, with her first solo exhibition ‘We the people’ 2013 followed by many solo exhibits, introducing her sculptures in ‘Roller Coaster’ 2017 and her first book in ‘Utopia’ 2021. As well as group shows in her native city and internationally in Italy, Spain, Kuwait, Dubai and Mykonos. “Sacred part 1 and 11 (dated 2023)” her fourteenth solo exhibitions presenting her latest body of work; introducing her installation work / painted sculptures. A collection of two years of work took place in Kuwait and Cairo. She is known to have created her own world and people.
