Yun Kusanagi

Short Biography

Yun built his practice across several cities in the UK before settling in Dubai, where he has developed an active presence across galleries, residencies, and public art placements. In 2025, he won the Artist in Hotel Residence program me run jointly by 25hours Hotel One Central and World Art Dubai, completing a three-weekend residency across September and October 2025 and producing the series '4019 – Traces', shaped by the hotel's rhythms of quiet mornings and busy nights. The residency was covered by Time Out Dubai, Art in the Middle Magazine, and theMagger. Four works from his practice were placed on public digital display on Elevision Screens across Dubai Design District in partnership with Art in the Middle Magazine. He has held solo and curated exhibitions at Intent Gallery in Downtown Dubai and has shown work at Mondoir Gallery and Boca Restaurant in DIFC.

Artistic Style

Yun works as an abstract expressionist with an energy he describes as leaning street. His paintings are organised into series that build like a track list, each piece responding to the one before it until the body of work feels complete and honest. The series '4019 – Traces', produced during his residency at 25hours Hotel One Central, reflects this approach: a set of works shaped by a specific context and time rather than a predetermined visual plan. Acrylic is his primary medium, handled with directness and physical commitment, producing surfaces that retain the marks of the making process as part of their meaning.
