About the creator
- Mariame Ahmad, born in Lyon, France, is a London-based multidisciplinary artist and spatial designer. She studied Fine Art with a focus on Sculpture at Central Saint Martins before pursuing Interior and Spatial Design at Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London. Her practice explores the intersections of space, environment, culture, and her French-Afghan heritage. For her Master's project, Ahmad investigated the role of art and craftsmanship in promoting cross-cultural dialogue within conflict-affected regions such as Afghanistan. Through interviews with archaeologists, researchers, Afghan artists, women refugees, and the digital heritage organization Iconem, she examined the cultural and symbolic significance of the Bamiyan Great Cliffs. Her work delves into themes of preservation, tolerance, and the urgency of protecting endangered heritage. The resulting collaborative artworks act as platforms for remote engagement with Afghanistan’s cultural identity, offering a creative form of resistance against the Taliban’s ongoing attempts to erase the nation’s historical and cultural diversity.
